What you can do!

Our advice if you are going through a similar situation.

We have received many emails from people going through similar situations.
Until we have more time to create a more in depth page here is a response we sent out
to a reader who inquired about such advice.

Hello , Sorry to hear about your situation. The first bit of advice I would give you is document everything. Any communications you send should be through traceable correspondence. You can use fax or email and for the really important use registered mail with return receipt. It is harder for them to ignore these types of communications. Keep all response letters and note when they do not respond. Take lots of pictures before and after. Take pictures of your property before they start construction all around your property paying attention to the side of your house next to the construction site. Get yourself a notebook and keep a log of everything that has happened as well as what happens in the future. This will come in handy down the road. Use 311 to report any issues with the construction site. Get confirmation numbers for everything. If anything is damaged on your property make an insurance claim. We made the mistake of not getting the insurance company involved and robbed ourselves of a good resource. Your insurance company will sue on your behalf to be reimbursed for any damages caused by others. With some developers this is better off taking place sooner rather than later. Get involved with the community through community board meetings and community action groups. We got a lot of help and advice from those places. SouthSouthSlope.com and Concerned Citizens of Greenwood Heights were very helpful. Those are some of the more important items I could think of right now. I will probably make a page with more details in the near future. Always try to remain calm. These developers thrive on getting people angry and disgusted so they will just give up. It is a sick game they play that probably works much of the time. Good luck and keep us informed.
